I. PERSONAL EXPERIENCE: separate essay

II. FACTS: (follow up, Kuya Celmer have my tickler)

III. PERSONAL ASSESSMENT: About the whole experience and the immersion.

Of the two immersions I was able to partake into, I would say that the 6th one is far incomparable with the 5th immersion. I just hope more volunteers would be able to participate in worthwhile endeavors such as these.

IV. SUGGESTIONS:

     a. On the Project (after participating in the immersion and with the facts that you were able to get from the immersion)

AGRI MISSION (for: women and teens; or children) (c/o Tamaraw Volunteers) - Like what we have been proposing, an agricultural mission in the community of the Dumagats would be very much beneficial to the people. Since we learned that they have very minimal vegetable crops, I personally think that it is very useful in the concepts of:

1. health,

2. industry,

3. resourcefulness; and even

4. livelihood

We can conduct this by bringing in seeds in the community and teaching them the proper cultivation of a specific crop.

MEDICAL MISSION (for: children, men and women)

1.     blood pressure

2.     “pagpupurga”

3.     check up to determine malnourishment issues

4.     distribution of more vitamins/minerals  (syrup/tablets) and other OTC drugs for common sickness

FAMILY PLANNING (for couples)

Since they are very much insistent on learning methods of family planning (especially the women), I think it would benefit them a lot if we will help conduct a sort of a family planning seminars which would tackle both the natural methods and the artificial methods (with pros and cons).

LITERACY PROGRAM FOR THE CHILDREN (I’ll try to suggest this to IAS-SC)

(brief view) This program basically aims to encourage literacy among the people especially to the growing children. We shall be conducting teaching sessions on basic subjects such as arithmetic, ABCD’s, science and wonders and other interests of children. We can also indulge them to drawing sessions, and other fun games which shall develop their personhood and individual skills and talents. To facilitate this, we’ll invite reps from different acad orgs. We shall then be distributing instructional materials (such as posters, notebooks, books, crayons, etc.).

     b. On the Immersion

how to improve the conduct of our immersion

siguro it would be better to prepare a time table where the intended activities are listed with the corresponding guide time. The time table would then depend on the agenda of the immersion. It will be beneficial in such a way that every minute of the immersio is wisely spent especially sa mga antuking gaya q and ni Kua Norman!

division of labor- simple tasks such as pag-rerefill ng water bottles, pagpreprepare ng table for meal and the likes, should also be distributed. Right, we’re volunteers yet it’s better if we will have point persons to a specific task. However, everyone is still encouraged to help. This would hearten industry among us.

what should we bring:

tent, cooking set, pajamas at night, blanket, off lotion, sun block, life vest and inflatable salbabida c“,), energy drinks, umbrella, rain coat (rainy seasons), water with salt (I’ve learned that this is commensurately effective with energy drinks), snacks, breads, candies

activities that we should include

night time-bon fire (sharing, kwentuhan, bonding)

yes! so far a feat yet to be duplicated... pero parang ayoko pang gawin... not in the near future... considering the things that we have to go through just to get there!
